define: biopunk

Just some random, incoherent notes on biopunk (some borrowed from Splicer of biopunk.org).

So how do you define biopunk? Is it just cyberpunk with stem cells, genetic engineering and bionic limbs, instead of crappy Second Life style virtual realities and cybernetic body parts? Is postgenderism or body modification biopunk? Does it have any connection to transhumanism or posthumanism? Maybe not, trans/posthumanists are basically living in some kind of pink mist, waiting for the singularity (oooh, i will live for a  thousand years, maybe don’t have to this shit Windows sysadmin job at the IT department).

DIYbio is definitely biopunk, the problem is that this Biological Parts Registry/synthetic biology with the simple standardized bricks is a really naive approach to even bacteria, not to mention more complicated organisms.  On the other hand, without these, there won’t be any real hacking, messing with biology. We need an electronics store, cheap parts and Arduinos for biology.

Biopunk is science, away with the mystic fucking. Scientific method, memetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, atheism, DIYbiology, hacker culture. All your DNA are belong to us.
